God is our City

Day 160:  Psalms 48:1-3

Psalm 48:1 A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God, In His holy mountain. 2Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, The city of the great King. 3God is in her palaces; He is known as her refuge.

You, O Lord, are the great, the mighty, the only true and living God. You deserve the greatest praise we can give You. All we are and have comes from You and belongs to You. We ought to be grateful children, thankful for all You have done for us and in us.

Ultimately, You chose the city of Jerusalem to be the refuge of God’s people under King David and then as Solomon completed the temple and the palaces, it reflected even more of the future heavenly home for all God’s children through Jesus Christ. The earthly Jerusalem in her glory pointed to the heavenly Jerusalem, the new Jerusalem.

It is Your city, O God. The destiny of all men would be determined in and around her walls as You sent Your Son to reveal Your glory, Your power, Your love, and salvation for all who would repent of their sin and trust in Jesus Christ to save them. This is Your Holy ground. You said You would put Your name here. It is Your presence that makes this place holy.

It is beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth. One day the nations will stream into her to worship the Lord.

Isaiah 2:2-3 says, “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD’s house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. 3Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”

God, You are in her palaces. You are with Your people. You are the light. You are the living water that flows through the city.

Just as the disciples were safe in the boat even in a storm, because Jesus was there, so we are safe in You, Jesus.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
