God is our Refuge and Strength

Day 150: Psalms 46:1

To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth.[a] A Song.

46 God is our refuge and strength,  a very present[b] help in trouble.

Almighty God, You are strength and might and power. You are the Creator God, sustainer God, Provider, and Director God, the only true and living God. In You alone resides all strength and power. You have distributed strength as You will, but there is no strength that is greater than Your strength. There is no strength that even can come close or challenge Your strength. You control it all!

You are our defensive refuge and strength and the offensive strength that flows to us and through us, above and beyond us to accomplish all Your holy will! Nothing can get through to us that You do not design for the good of Your glory and for the good of Your people. You give us strength to both will and to do Your good pleasure.

The world is not balanced between the powers of good and evil, between God and the devil. Power is not some mighty force with a good side and bad side. You alone are the power behind all power, the source of strength behind all strength. Evil men and powers will one day give account for how they have abused Your gift of power. Even the righteous and the good must answer to You for how they have used the strength and energy You have given to them.

To say as the psalmist says in Psalm 46:1 that God is our refuge and strength is to say that there is nothing that can happen to us that is not in God’s perfect plan for us. And we know that God’s plan for His children is a plan for our eternal good and not for evil (Jeremiah 29:11).

God is a present help. We do not just say that one day He will help us. We acknowledge that God is a present help. He is involved in the here and now. He is giving grace even now to face whatever may come. We cannot always see His hand in the middle of the crises and trials and busy times of life, but God is always with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us, even when we do not feel like He is with us. Our God, my God, is a present help in times of trouble.

O Jesus, in You I trust, by Your grace, for Your glory, and with Your love!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
