Sometimes we feel the sufferings of this fallen world

Day 139: Psalms 44:9-16

Psalm 44:9 But You have cast us off and put us to shame, And You do not go out with our armies. 10You make us turn back from the enemy, And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves. 11You have given us up like sheep intended for food, And have scattered us among the nations. 12You sell Your people for next to nothing And are not enriched by selling them. 13You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scorn and a derision to those all around us. 14You make us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples. 15My dishonor is continually before me, And the shame of my face has covered me, 16Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the enemy and the avenger.

Almighty God, it seems the tables have turned. Even though there have been times of victory and refreshing, there are also times when life is so incredibly hard that we feel we cannot take another step forward in our lives. Yes, we remember and have experienced victories, but now we seem to be going through wave after wave of trials. Oh, Lord, we feel Your chastening hand upon us. We feel as if You have abandoned us. We feel the very pain and suffering that one day Jesus would experience in this fallen world.

Though in Your perfect plan, You have allowed us to go through suffering. We have known shame and hardship, the mocking attacks and subtle attacks of the enemy of our souls.

Lord, we are beaten down and somewhat discouraged. Help us not grow weary in well-doing. Help us not to lose heart.

Grant us the enduring grace that You revealed in and through Your Son.

In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
