Christ is the Perfect Sacrifice for our Sin

Day 118:  Psalms 40:6-15

Psalm 40:6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require. 7Then I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”

Lord, You have shown us Your glory and Your glorious works. You opened our eyes, our hearts, and our souls. You have not only shown us Yourself, You have also shown us the way to know You.

We cannot buy our way to You with sacrifices and offerings. You have made that clear to us. You did not require burnt offerings and sin offerings to come to know You. The whole sacrificial system was like a scaffolding that was set in place to show our need for the permanent sacrifice for our sins. The sacrificial system of the Old Testament never could buy our way into heaven. Hebrews 10:4 says For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.

Father, You have shown us that it is Christ who has come to be the perfect sacrifice for our sin. It is Jesus who could truly say, “Behold I come.” In the book of the law, it is written of Him that He delights to do Your will. Jesus is Your perfect pure and holy sacrifice who delighted to do Your will and did it perfectly. He has come that we might have life. He, our Savior has come.  Emmanuel has come. Praise be to God.

Lord, it never was about what we could give to You. The sacrifices just showed that we acknowledged Your Lordship and our need for Your forgiveness and provision for our sin. They were temporary, external rituals that pointed to the deeper realities that are found in You. Lord, You have given us all that we have through the person and work of Your Son, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus, You are the Most Holy One. To know You is to know the fullness of the Father. To come to You is to come to the mercy seat and find true and eternal forgiveness for all our sin!

            Amen and Praise the Lord!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
