Joy Over God’s Mercy and Grace

Day 114:  Psalms 40: 1-2

Psalm 40:1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.

Post tenebrous lux. After darkness, light. Lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone, the flowers appear on the earth and the time for singing is come (Song of Solomon 2:11-12). In the previous Psalm, David asked You, O God to turn away Your chastening eye and to cause David to rejoice. Here he is saying that You heard and answered His prayer. You, O Lord, our God forgave Him. You gave David cause to rejoice. O Lord, through David we see a reflection of what You have done in the lives of all Your children. You made the once for all payment of our sin through the death of Your Son, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. You have moved us from darkness to light.

But even though the guilt of our sin before You has been paid we still deal with the reality of our sin nature and the trouble and consequences it brings. It hurts to deal with this sinful nature and its consequences. But You do forgive and You do help us overcome the consequences of our sin. You cause our wounds and scars from our own sins to heal. All praise to Your Name!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
