The Lord’s Loving and Chastening Hand

Day 112  Psalms 39:9-11

Psalm 39:9 I was mute, I did not open my mouth, Because it was You who did it. 10Remove Your plague from me; I am consumed by the blow of Your hand. 11When with rebukes You correct man for iniquity, You make his beauty melt away like a moth; Surely every man is vapor. Selah

I have received Your chastisements and rebukes. I thank You for taking the time and the effort to correct me and lead me back to the right path. Hebrews 12:6-8 reminds me, “For whom the LORD loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” 7If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

Lord, You have loved me enough to correct me. You have wounded, but You will heal. I have kept my peace and not complained against You. You have chastised me for my sin. You have corrected me for my errant ways. I have sought to be still and receive the blows with faith and quiet resignation.

Yet, my Father, I ask that You put an end to my chastisement, to the consequences of my sin. You have not given me as much as I deserve, but I am weak, and this chastisement is overwhelming to me. Remove the plague that I have brought upon myself because of my sin. Do not let my sufferings continue.

Your corrections could easily remove the rest of this short life from me. My life is already so small, so insignificant. Your gentle breath of correction could be as the dandelion loses its parts to the slightest puff of air. Lord, You know our frame. You remember that we are but dust.

I trust my life and destiny to You, Lord Jesus. Amen.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
