Asking For Help in our Battle with Sin

Day 106: Psalms 38:9-11

Psalm 38:9 Lord, all my desire is before You; And my sighing is not hidden from You. 10My heart pants, my strength fails me; As for the light of my eyes, it also has gone from me. 11My loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague, And my relatives stand afar off.

Lord, You know what I would like to see happen. You know the deep desires of my heart and discern what is good and what is evil. You have placed a godly desire within me. Lord, I long to be pleasing to You. I desire to be with You. You have put Your Holy Spirit in me and caused me to long for You. O Lord, cause me to desire You most of all and truly to desire You only. Then, O Lord, fulfill that desire. Help me long for You in this dry and thirsty land. Let me hunger and thirst after righteousness. Then fulfill that desire.

Be the only holy passion that drives me and all Your children. Help us sell everything to have this pearl of great price. Help the longing for the One true and living God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, draw us ever deeper into Your love and glory. May we shine as those who spend time with Jesus. May we come from the mountain with a face that shines, like Moses. May we be like the apostles when men said they recognized them as men who spent time with Jesus.

Make others hungry and thirsty to know You, also, O Lord. Use Your Holy Spirit and our example and our words to overcome the love of this world and its charms. Wasn’t that part of Adam and Eve’s problem. They thought they wanted or needed something besides God and what He gave them. Lord, please, by the resurrection power of Christ, help us not fall into that same sin. While we thank You for all the beautiful and comfortable human treasures we have, may they never become to us, more precious than our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Lord, please remove all my sinful desires and see and hear only the pure desires of my heart. See those deeper desires and longings for You that You have placed in my heart and hear me when I cry to You.

Forgive me when I have given into my sinful desires. Forgive me and hear the anguish of my soul. Forgive me in the midst of the battle of the war between the flesh and the Spirit, when I give into the flesh and sin and feel the weight of my sin and foolishness. I have grieved the Holy Spirit. I have hurt myself so that I am thirsty for You. I am weak and have no strength. You are my strength and when I go astray from you, my strength fails me. I cannot see the way forward.

Others see my life and wonder what is happening. Many who love me, my friends and relatives stand away from me in confusion and abandon me. They act as if I had some plague.

O Lord, be my comfort and help through Your Son and my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ alone! Amen!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
