Day 104: Psalms 38:1-8
Psalm 38:1 A Psalm of David. To bring to remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in Your wrath, Nor chasten me in Your hot displeasure!
O God, I remember my sin and my great need of You. I feel my guilt. It weighs heavy upon me. Father, I remember my sin and it makes me cry out to You for Your forgiveness, mercy, and grace. Please do not give me what I deserve. Do not rebuke me in Your wrath. I could not stand it. Please do not even chasten me in Your hot displeasure.
O Lord, You have told us clearly in Your word that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Romans 3: 10 also says that there is none righteous, no, not one! Repeatedly throughout the Scripture from the Old Testament through the New Testament, we have seen our sin.
Even after Your children have come to faith in you, even though the penalty for sin is totally paid and the overall power of sin is broken, still there is sin present with us. I John 1: 8 was written to Christians and it says, If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.” Romans 6: 12 & 13 says that we are not to let sin reign in our bodies.
O God our King, we confess that we fall short of loving You with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We have not loved one another as Christ has loved us. Too often we have sought our glory above Your glory, our selfish pleasure above Your perfect and holy will.
When we see our failures, how far short we fall of following You and Your revealed will for us, we are humbled and inwardly hurt over our foolish ways and the trouble they bring to us and to others.
Father, forgive us!
In Jesus’ Name alone, Amen!
Amen! 🙏🏻
