God will keep the godly and punish the wicked

Day 97: Psalms 37:12-14

Psalm 37:12 The wicked plots against the just, And gnashes at him with his teeth. 13The Lord laughs at him, For He sees that his day is coming. 14The wicked have drawn the sword And have bent their bow, To cast down the poor and needy, To slay those who are of upright conduct.

The wicked will make their plots and schemes. They may even prevail for a brief time among men, but their end is certain. They plotted and schemed against Jesus. Yet every time their plans fell to nothing. Even when they thought they won by torturing and crucifying Jesus, they lost and fulfilled God’s plan to save His people from their sin. What at first looked like their greatest triumph was in reality their greatest failure!

Sometimes, O Lord, You have allowed wicked men or wicked plans to temporarily prevail against Your servants for the greater glory of God. You allowed Joseph to go to prison, though he was not guilty. You allowed Korah to rebel against Moses. You allowed Absalom to stir a rebellion against his own father.

Yet all these schemes and more You have used in Your most holy plan to bring Your glory and show Your mercy and help to Your children. Whether in life or in death, Your ultimate, Sovereign plans prevail. You work all things together for good to those who love You who are the called according to Your purpose. There is no plot or scheme that will take Your children out of Your hands (John 10:28).

You laugh at their foolish attempts to overthrow the sovereign will of God (cf. Psalm 2:4; 59:8). Though they may make all their secret, intricate plans, they will never fully and finally prevail. Their end will come and unless they repent, they will suffer in hell for all eternity.

O Father, help us not fret or worry or fear, but help us realize that You will always prevail against evil schemes of men. Help us not fear what men can do unto us. Help us be quiet in our souls, trusting You even when they are attacking us, knowing that through faith in Jesus even these horrible matters will be undone in Your time and in Your way for the good of Your people and the glory of Your name.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
