Trust and Delight in God

Day 95: Psalm 37: 3 – 4

            Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4Delight yourself also in the LORD, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

            God, You tell us to trust, delight, commit and rest in the Lord. Help us do what You command. Give us Your grace through the work of the Holy Spirit to trust You. You are indeed utterly trustworthy. You have proved Your faithfulness to us again and again. But we are weak. We are foolish. We must cry out, Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.

            But, You, Almighty God, have proven time and time again that You keep Your Word, that You guard and guide Your children into paths of righteousness. You have made your children righteous by Your gift of righteousness. You have again and again stilled the storms in our lives. You have again and again fed the multitudes. You have again and again healed so many of our diseases that we know that You care for us and that You will see Your children safely through their trials.

            Help that trust in You lead us along the right paths. Help us follow You both in the times of pleasant quietness, but also in the times of great distress. In the heat and in the cold, in the light and in the dark, when we are full of energy and when we are weary, when there are multitudes lined against us or when the multitudes support us, let us continue to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus our highest and richest treasure. Thank you, O Lord, for the multitudes of blessings, but let the blessings never become more important than the Blessed One Who has given us all good things in Jesus. You have indeed blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places.

            You have caused us to dwell in the land in peace. You have kept Your Word to Your children. Help us respond by walking in faith and doing the good that You have set before us. Help us abide in Your presence and give thanks and live a grateful trusting life for all You have done, are doing, and yet will do for Your people and for the glory of Your name.

            Be our chief delight, our greatest treasure, the ultimate One who makes our hearts rejoice. Part of the regeneration in Christ is to help us love You supremely. May we love You more than life, more than all the riches of this earth. You are our joy and crown and our salvation. As you have delighted in Your children, so may Your children delight in You!
