The Wonder of the Living Word and the Written Word

Day 77 Psalm 33: 4 – 9

Psalm 33:4 For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth. 5He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.

Lord, Your word is always true. As Jesus Christ is the living Word that perfectly reflects Your holiness, justice, grace, and truth, so Your written Word also is a perfect reflection of Your character. It is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Your written Word brings me to the living Word by the work of Your Holy Spirit. Your Word is the anchor to my soul, the still point in the turning world as T.S. Eliot said. Your Word explains and clarifies You and Your work so that we might see You, know You, worship, and truly adore You for all You are and all You have done!

All that You have made, planned, and determined is done according to Your nature, O God. Therefore, all is done in truth because God is truth. Your work is a reflection of who You are, the only Lord God of the universe. Your power and majesty, beauty, and wisdom are imprinted on all Your creation. As You have done Your work in truth and righteousness, so You long to see and will see truth and righteousness come to full fruition in the days of Your great glorification. Even now, the heavens are declaring the glory of God.

Throughout Your creation, we see Your goodness and provision. You let the rain fall on the just and the unjust. You provide meals for the lions and ferocious creatures, but also for the weak and lowly. The whole earth reflects Your goodness and glory.

Psalm 33:6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. 7He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. 8Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. 9For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.

Triune God, Your word is amazing. Your word is life and power. You made all things by Your Word, the Word of Your power. You spoke and it was done. Our human words are of little or no effect, but when You speak the universe is transformed. Heaven and earth may pass away, but Your Word will never pass away.

Your Word brings life. Your Word is life. Your Word is alive. Hebrews 4:12 says For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Jesus Christ, Your eternal Son, is the living Word of God. Through Him all things were created.

Lord, You are the all-powerful God. You speak and the universe comes into being. Lord there is no one like You. There is no second or third place. You alone are the self-existent One who needs no one. Yet, O God, we all need You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We only begin to see You and understand Your majesty, dominion, and power. We can say the words, but our sight is limited. We see through the mirror of Your Word with limited sight. Your glory is so bright that we cannot look directly into Your unveiled glory. Lord, please help our knowledge, our insight, our blessed experience of You increase.

We pray all this in the Name of Your eternal Son, the Word of God.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
