Praying for God’s Glory Against Sin and Shame

Day 72:  Psalms 31:17-18

Psalm 31:17-18 Do not let me be ashamed, O LORD, for I have called upon You; Let the wicked be ashamed; Let them be silent in the grave. 18Let the lying lips be put to silence, Which speak insolent things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous

Great and awesome Lord, You delivered David from His enemies. In spite of David’s sin, You, O God, did not leave him in his sin and shame. You did not leave Your own Son to the grave after He bore the punishment for all Your people’s sin and guilt, but You raised Him from the dead!

O God, I have sought to lift up Your Name before others, to be salt and light to a watching world, to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Help my witness be consistent and pure. Do not let me bring dishonor to Your Name. Instead, let those who have opposed You be ashamed for their stance against You. Catch them in the trap they have set for me and for others. Put an end to their attacks. If they will not repent and turn to You, then remove their influence, shut their mouths, end their attacks. They have mocked You and Your people. Yet You have said we are the apple of Your eye. You have said that You would bless those who bless Your people and curse those who curse Your people. You have said that people should not touch the head of Your anointed or speak evil of a ruler of God’s people.

Lord, please deal with their evil and do not let them continue to speak against Your people. I know one day there will be no more crying no more tears, no more attacks, lies, and conspiracies. One day You will judge those who have wrongfully spoken against Your children. But until that day there will be martyrs. There will be those who sin against Your people. Indeed, this is a world of sin and though Christians are forgiven sinners, they still sin.

Lord, I pray for mercy and help even for our enemies, but if they will not repent, then please still their mouths, end their attacks. Do not let them continue to prevail against Your people. O Lord, how long until their ways cease?

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
