From God’s Chastening to Eternal Life

Day 67:  Psalms 30:5-12

Psalm 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

All-powerful God, holy God, loving Lord of all, You have chastened Your children, but You have also healed them. You have cut as a surgeon, but you heal the wound. You have restored the years that the locusts have eaten. You are the balm of Gilead that heals our sin-sick souls.

You have brought joy to broken hearts and one day you will fully, totally remove all wickedness, all death and evil from the midst of Your people and against Your people.,

Even now Your children begin to know Your presence that gives life, strength, peace, and joy. Because of You, the day will come when we will only have joy, peace, love, and the light of Christ filling our hearts and souls forever. All praise and glory be to You, the Triune God!

Psalm 30:6 Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.” 7LORD, by Your favor You have made my mountain stand strong; You hid Your face, and I was troubled. 8I cried out to You, O LORD; And to the LORD I made supplication: 9“What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth? 10Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!

In this world with all the progress You had given me, I thought that everything was fine. I thought I would be able to stand no matter what trouble came. Like Peter before the crucifixion, I thought that I could handle any crisis or trial. I even gave You some credit for this, but I thought that no matter what came, I would always be strong.

But trouble came and I was reminded, O Lord, that I am not strong in and of myself. My only strength comes from You.

I am weak but You are strong.

Jesus keep me from all wrong.

I’ll be satisfied as long as I walk,

let me walk close to You.

(Just a Closer Walk with Thee, Unknown, 2 Cor. 13:4)

Lord, the troubles I faced made me cry out to You. You used these hardships in my life to drive me back to You. Thank You, O Lord! How can I serve You in the grave? Help me survive to serve You in the land of the living. Just like the blind men by the road to Jericho, I cried out to You, Lord, save me and You heard my cry.

Psalm 30:11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, 12To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

Lord, repeatedly You took away my sadness and tears. You brought joy and happiness in the place of suffering, tears, and pain. Thank You, O God, for the many ways You have blessed us, delivered us, and helped us through the trials in our lives. Thank You for lives touched by the gospel. Thank You for people who are deeply moved by the good news of Christ. Thank You for helping me grow in faith. You have made many wonderful changes in my heart. Thank You for Your mercy and help, O Lord.

Lord, thank You for letting me continue to praise Your Name and serve You. I thank You and pray that You would resolve all the matters before us in peace. Please help me, Lord, to thank and praise You forever!

In Christ’s name alone I pray.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
