Day 63: Psalms 29:1-2
Psalm 29:1 A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O you mighty ones, Give unto the LORD glory and strength. 2Give unto the LORD the glory due to His name; Worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
Most holy and triune God, You alone are God and there is no other. Help us to praise and honor You. You alone are worthy of ultimate praise! You taught us through Your Son to pray, Hallowed be Your Name! You deserve all our purest desire, imagination, thoughts, words, and deeds of praise!
We honor men and women for their greatly worldly accomplishments. We honor scientists who discover Your wondrous treasures and bring us vaccines, cures, and treatments for diseases, disorders, and syndromes. We praise athletes for their physical accomplishments. We honor politicians for bringing people together.
How much more ought we to honor the God of the universe who is great and holy and perfect in and of Himself. Lord, You need no one and nothing. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, You are One and You live in perfection and in glorious harmony within Yourself. Lord, You are God, the true and sovereign God and there is no other. You have created all that exists. Both the seen and the unseen worlds are created by the word of Your command. You sustain them, direct them, and will bring them to the perfect conclusion.
Lord, when we consider the work of Your hands, the moon and the stars, the wonder of this planet, what is a man that You take thought of him, or the son of man that You would even consider him? Yet in love and with Your infinite perfections You have reached down to us. You have loved Your people with an everlasting love.
O Lord, we barely begin to understand You, but for the glory, You have shown us, for the wonder of who You are, we praise and magnify Your name. The very best we have to offer is only a dim reflection of Your great glory. Help us to give You our very best praise and honor. Help us give You the love, the strength, the life, the service, faith, and obedience that belongs to You and to You alone.
Everything we have comes from You and we use it to honor You. Even after we have given our very best to You, we are still unworthy servants. As Luke 17:10 reminds us, “So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do’.”
We find our fulfillment in Your praise. We were made to worship You and we delight to worship You, to speak of Your greatness and glory. In Your life we have life. In Your light we see the world as You intended it. We glorify and enjoy You. We love one another as we were made to love.
O for a thousand tongues to sing our great Redeemer’s praise, the glories of our God and King, the triumphs of His grace. He breaks the power of canceled sin. He sets the prisoner free. His blood can clean the foulest sin. His blood was shed for me!
Thank You, O Lord. All praise be to You. Lord, help me worship You in the beauty of holiness. Your holiness is beautiful. In Hebrews 12:14 You have commanded us to “pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” Further Hebrews 12:10 reminds us that our parents corrected and trained us only as they could see best, but You trained us to be holy. “For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness.” I Thessalonians 4:7 remind us, “For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness.”
We worship Him because of His holiness and we know that we are called to be holy. We cannot be holy on our own, but as God has given us His grace through the Lord Jesus, we are declared holy and righteous because of Christ’s righteousness and holiness. I Thessalonians 3:11-13 tells us that God is working His holiness into our hearts. 11Now may our God and Father Himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you. 12And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, 13so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.
With the holiness You give us and in the midst of Your most holy throne, we come to worship You, O Lord in the beauty of Your holiness. May our God be truly worshipped and praised.
Amen! 🙌
