Help Us Through Our Doubts and Fears

Day 58:  Psalms 27:7-10

Psalm 27:7-10 Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me. 8When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek.” 9Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation. 10When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the LORD will take care of me

Almighty God and Lord of all, though You have repeatedly delivered me from my own sin and from those who sin against me, yet there are times of trials and testing when I feel overwhelmed. At times the path of life seems hard and long. I am pushed against the wall and the sheer weight of the enemy’s forces pressing against me is overwhelming.

The enemy presses so hard that I must cry out to You. Oh, I ought always to pray and not faint, but at times, O Lord, my back is against the wall, and I think I see the end. Yet, it is not the end, O Lord. It is Your time. I cry out to you as the lepers cried out for Christ to hear them. I cry out as Peter cried out when he began to slip into the waves. I cry out like Mary and Martha for their brother Lazarus. I cry out as Christ cried out from the cross.

I cry for Your mercy and Your help. Do not give me what I deserve but give me what I need to love and follow You and serve You even through this time of crisis.

When You said, “Seek my face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.” Lord and Redeemer, You turned my heart to seek You. You drew me to Yourself to seek You in prayer. You awakened me to my need and Your call to prayer brought me to my knees, laid me flat on my face before You in prayer. I sought the Lord and afterward I knew He turned my heart to seek Him seeking me. ’Twas not so much that I on You took hold, but that You took hold on me.

O Lord, as I do come to You, please let me sense Your presence. Let me know that You are with me and that You have not abandoned me. I know I am not alone, O Lord, because of the work of Your Holy Spirit in my heart, but there are times when I feel alone. Help me not be overcome by my feelings, my doubts, or my fears. Let me walk in faith that You are always with me and that You will never leave or forsake me. I do not merely pray this for myself O Lord, but for all Your servants. O Lord, You know our frame. You remember that we are but dust. You know how easily we are overcome. You understand our weakness and frailty. You came, Lord Jesus, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Help us through our troubled times.

Do not turn Your face away from us in anger. In some mysterious way, You turned Your back on Your Son, Holy Father, when He cried out in that mysterious, wonderful, frightful, necessary moment on the cross when He said, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” You did this, O Lord so that we would never be forsaken. You would rather die than live without Your children as unworthy as we are. You, O God, are our only help. Sometimes we believe it is money, fame, earthly power, and politics that reigns. But Almighty God, only You reign.

Lord, do not turn us away. If You, O Lord, should mark our sin, then none of us could stand before You. Please turn Your anger away from us and let us live before You.   Even when our mother and father are gone, whether they forsake us like the man born blind in John 9: 20 – 22, or have died and gone from this life, still You will be with us, O Lord.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
