Day 55: Psalms 26: 9-12
Psalm 26:9 Do not gather my soul with sinners, Nor my life with bloodthirsty men, 10In whose hands is a sinister scheme, And whose right hand is full of bribes.
Most holy and loving God, Sovereign Lord, please do not let the wickedness and scheming of evil men prevail, those men and women who refuse to repent and follow You. Protect us from all of Satan’s many schemes through men and women, through circumstances and the activities of principalities and powers by the resurrection power of Your Son, Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You have told us that ultimately our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, spiritual forces of wickedness. So, we pray to You, trusting You and Your Word that You help us overcome the evil one’s efforts to destroy our relationship with You, to break our faith.
We stumble and fall. Proverbs 24:16 says, “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity.” Psalm 37: 24 reminds us, “Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down; For the LORD upholds him with His hand.” In Luke 22: 31-32, Jesus told Peter, “Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”
Lord, we are weak, but you are strong. Even young men stumble badly (compare Isaiah 40: 30-31) but as we wait on the Lord, You renew our strength. We may stumble before our enemies, but as we look to You, You will lift us up and help us to prevail, either by delivering us from our enemies’ traps, through the midst of their traps, or in some cases through martyrdom to our heavenly home.
Lord, even in our weakness, bring glory to Your name. II Corinthians 4:5-12 reminds us:
5For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake. 6For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed — 10always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 11For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. 12So then death is working in us, but life in you.
Father, do not let our enemies prevail over our faith, but deliver us and use Your grace of faith in us so that we may overflow to the praise and glory of Your Name and for our own faith and life before You.
Psalm 26:11 But as for me, I will walk in my integrity; Redeem me and be merciful to me. 12My foot stands in an even place; In the congregations I will bless the LORD.
I will trust and follow You in the strength that You give me. II Samuel 22:18 says,”He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me; For they were too strong for me.” Lord Jesus, You have delivered me from those who were too strong for me. Again and again, You have set me free from their designs. I praise Your holy name. You have helped me walk in my integrity based on the grace that You, Jesus, have given me. You have helped me trust and obey You through my times of trials and testing. Lord, I am not perfect, but You have forgiven me and declared me righteousness and given me faith and hope in You.
You have redeemed me again and again. You have provided that once for all deliverance through the death and resurrection of Your Son. You have been merciful to me and have not given me what I deserved, but Your grace alone has made me whole.
I tell others of Your many mighty acts to me, to Your children and all who will hear.
Amen!
