Have Mercy, Lord! See my Trouble!

Day 16:  Psalms 9:13 – 14 Have mercy on me, O LORD! Consider my trouble from those who hate me, You who lift me up from the gates of death, 14That I may tell of all Your praise In the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in Your salvation.

Lord, do not give me what I deserve. Look at all I have suffered. O Lord, You know the stresses and strains on Your servants and You give us Your grace. Like a Father pities His children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him (Psalm 103:13). Your only Son, my Savior, is able to sympathize with my weakness (Hebrews 4:14 – 15).

Thank You, Lord, for delivering me again and again. You have delivered me from the penalty and power of my sin through Jesus (I Timothy 1:15). It is ultimately in Jesus’ deliverance and resurrection that all Your children have deliverance now and for eternity. You have delivered me from many situations. “Through many dangers, toils and snares, we have already come.” You have overcome those who were too strong for me (II Samuel 22:18). Silence their tongues, O Lord. Continue Your work in and through me (Philippians 1:6).

Lord, I am a sinner, unworthy of Your love, care, forgiveness, and mercy (Luke 18:13-14). Yet, O Lord, You have repeatedly shown mercy to me, to my mother and father, to my father’s father (Psalm 103:17-18; Psalm 128:6; Proverbs 13: 22). You have shown kindness to my wife, my sons, and daughters (Psalm 128). You have promised Your love and care for all our covenant children. O Lord, have mercy on our immediate family and our extended family. You delivered us that we may speak to others, that we may tell Your praise. Help us tell Your praise to others.

“In the gates of the daughter of Zion”: that means right before Your people, O Lord. I will rejoice in Your salvation. Help us be the people, the church You have called us to be. May we be like the healthy churches in the Bible in the healthy stages of their lives, like the churches in Ephesus, Philippi and others. Help us to be a vibrant, disciple-making church. Help us lead the lost to Christ. Help us grow in Your grace, in service, in worship, outreach, wisdom, and in every way into the fullness of Christ.

Help our elders, our deacons, and their families. Help the women in the church, the men of the church, the youth, the children, from the very youngest, to the oldest to love and follow You in faithfulness, full of Your Holy Spirit. Do such amazing things in us and through us that You are most wonderfully glorified!

Help us be better about reaching out to the lost. Forgive me, forgive us for the many lost opportunities (Ephesians 5:15-16). Help us pick up and serve You more faithfully. May our heart be more consistently devoted to You. Grant us the fullness of Your Holy Spirit. Fill us with Your courage and Your grace.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
