We are Amazed at God’s Creation

Day 12: Psalms 8:4-9

Psalm 8:4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?

Lord, why do You go to so much trouble for us? We are insignificant compared to the vastness of creation. Add to this the fact that we are obstinate, foolish, and rebellious people, O Lord (Isaiah 48:3-4; I Samuel 6:6; Nehemiah 9:13-17). Lord, our only hope is Your grace, Your love, Your mercy, and Your gift of righteousness through Jesus Christ our Lord (Isaiah 44:22).

Psalm 8:5 For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.

Lord, You have given us significance and value (Deuteronomy 7:7). You call us precious and make us precious to You, like the apple of Your eye (Deuteronomy 32:9-12). You have made us a reflection of Your glory and honor, to shine in us and through us to show forth Your glory (II Corinthians 4:7; Matthew 5:16).

Psalm 8:6 You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet.

You created Adam to be the vice-ruler over Your creation. As sons of Adam, we, too, are called to be fruitful and multiply and subdue the earth for Your glory and our good and joy (Genesis 1:28; Matthew 5:16). But only the Lord Jesus, Your eternal Son, will truly put all things under His feet (Hebrews 2:8; Ephesians 1:22; I Corinthians 15:27). Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11).

By Your decree and in Your name we seek to use what You have given us to Your glory (I Corinthians 10:31).

Psalm 8:7 All sheep and oxen — Even the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

Lord, these were given to us for food, that we might feast on them to give You glory, that we might harvest and use them to Your glory, whether by hunting them, by raising them to feed us or by learning from the many wonders You have designed in their lives. Lord, You have done all this and it is marvelous. Help us praise Your excellent Name.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
