O Lord, Put An End to Evil

Day 10:  Psalms 7:9-17

Psalm 7:9 Oh, let the evil of the wicked come to an end, and may you establish the righteous — you who test the minds and hearts, O righteous God!

O, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end. Let those who have wrongfully attacked Your people, let those wicked ones repent or be put away. When it is time please remove the tares from the wheat (Matthew 13:37-42). But establish Your people in Christ’s righteousness. Make us pure from the inside through Your Holy Spirit and Christ’s applied righteousness.

Psalm 7:10 My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. 11God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.

God, You are a just judge and You are angry with the wicked every day. You are my defender. By Your grace, You declare me just and You make my heart just. You are helping me lay aside the sin that so easily besets me and all Your people, so that we may live this Christian life with endurance and victory (Hebrews 12:1-2). Those who have hardened their hearts will not enter the kingdom of God (Hebrews 3:8).

Psalm 7:12 If a man does not repent, God will whet his sword; he has bent and readied his bow; 13 he has prepared for him his deadly weapons, making his arrows fiery shafts.

Lord, if You do not hold back Your wrath, Your enemies do not have a chance. You are ready to destroy them in Your perfect timing. Judgment will begin with the house of God (I Peter 4:17). Each one will give an account to God (Hebrews 4:13).

Psalm 7:14 Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies.

But still the wicked birth their evil like a woman having a baby. He thinks of ways to be in trouble and to lie. He conceives wickedness and conspires against the Lord and His anointed (Psalm 2:2). He is the son of his father, the devil, who is the author of lies (John 8:44). He is full of evil and he often is deceived in his wickedness (Isaiah 5:20).

Psalm 7:15 He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made.

He made a pit and dug it as a trap for others – for good people. He falls into the trap he made. He gets himself into trouble by his schemes that he intended to destroy others (Proverbs 11:31).  Betrayal will return to the head of the traitor. Lies will return to the liar. Schemes will ensnare the schemer. His very strength will be his weakness, his tragic flaw that destroys him.

Psalm 7:16 His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.

His trouble will fall on his own head. His own violence will consume him. With time the violent man, the corrupt man, the perverse, proud, angry, and stubborn man or woman will meet their end. If they do not repent of their sin and humble themselves before Almighty God, then their fall and judgment will be very great. There will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 8:12; 13:41-42).

Psalm 7:17 I will give to the LORD the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the LORD, the Most High.

I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness. I will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High. I praise the Lord that there will come a day when justice will be done, and all accounts will be settled (Revelation 19:1-4). Those who have been falsely accused will be cleared, and those who made false accusations will be revealed. God’s truth and righteousness will prevail.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
