Day 193 Psalm 55: 22 – 23
Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. 23But You, O God, shall bring them down to the pit of destruction; Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in You.
O God, I put my trust in You. You have brought Your people through trial after trial. You have given us the strength to endure everything from lies said about us behind our backs to the torments and tortures of martyrdom. Whatever has come upon Your people, You have given us the grace we needed. Praise be to You. You have helped us and do help us and will help us through all of our
distress. You hear and answer our prayers. You give us strength when we have no strength. You caused us to stand when we did not think we could go one step farther. Even when we stumbled and fell, You were there to pick us up and cause us to carry on. II Peter 2:9 reminds us that “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the Day of Judgment.”
There will be a day of reckoning for the wicked, those who refuse to turn from their evil ways. They will not go on and on in their sin with no judgment. Their days on earth will be shortened, and their wickedness will be punished. They may get away with evil for a season, but their destruction will come, and it will be terrible. Even if they do not receive the full force of judgment for their wickedness in this life, God will be certain that those who continue to oppress the righteous and delight in their evil will be in torment for their sin.
But I will trust in You. O God, You have given me hope and faith. When I saw no way of escape, You brought me through. You delivered me from those who set themselves against me. You overcame their lies and schemes and caused me to walk on high ground. O merciful God, my deliverer, my fortress, and my crown, I give You thanks and praise forever. Amen.
