Save me from those who would hurt me.

Day 185: Psalms 54:1-2

Psalm 54:1 [ESV] To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David, when the Ziphites went and told Saul, “Is not David hiding among us?”

O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might.

O Lord, sometimes I feel abandoned, sought out and discovered by my enemies, exposed to their devices and unable to hide from their assaults. O Lord, hear me. O Lord, help me. Save me from those who would hurt me. Protect me from those who are our enemies – Yours and mine. They have raised their hands against the Lord and against His anointed (I Samuel 26:9; II Samuel 1: 16) . They have spoken evil of a ruler of God’s people (Acts 23:5).

Do not grant them success in their labors. Thwart their spying and their betrayals. Do not let them succeed in their evil plots. Save me for Your Name’s sake. Do I not belong to the Lord? Will others see me and become discouraged. Free me that I might give testimony to Your name. You have the power to free me. You rescued me again and again from my enemies.

You are the strongest defense, a mighty fortress. You are the greatest weapon and the greatest warrior. You are the perfect weapon and yet also the perfect Lord and Savior.

In light of Your perfect strength, power, wisdom, justice, and truth, deliver me. Set me free from those who hate me and would destroy me.

Psalm 54:2 [ESV] O God, hear my prayer; give ear to the words of my mouth.

I know, O God, that You always hear the prayers of Your servant, but I cry out to You for Your assurance and the swiftness of Your supply. I am praying Your Word back to You and seeking Your help for me and for all the rest of Your children in similar situations. Hear my words, for they are Your own words. I am seeking that Your revealed will might be done. Hear the cries of Your children that cry out to You day and night. O Lord, hear. O Lord, save! Through Jesus Christ alone. Amen!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
