Day 173: Psalms 50:16-21
Psalm 50:16 But to the wicked God says: “What right have you to declare My statutes, Or take My covenant in your mouth, 17Seeing you hate instruction And cast My words behind you? 18When you saw a thief, you consented with him, And have been a partaker with adulterers. 19You give your mouth to evil, And your tongue frames deceit. 20You sit and speak against your brother; You slander your own mother’s son. 21These things you have done, and I kept silent; You thought that I was altogether like you; But I will rebuke you, And set them in order before your eyes.
Most holy God, I have heard wicked and hypocritical people mention Your Name with pretend reverence and it sickens me when they say what they do not mean. They boast about their sin and do not want Your will and Your way. They hate being taught by the truth and ignore Your Word. They join with many other sinners and support their wicked ways. They deceive. They deny their evil and deflect the charges and blame it on others. They delay or find other ways to keep from confessing their sin and repenting and calling out to God for forgiveness and mercy. O Lord cause them to repent and trust in You before it is too late and there is no more hope of redemption!
Even as believers we can fall into foolish ways when we pretend to follow You, but foolishly break Your law and are slow to repent. How our supposed following of Christ must sicken You. Father, forgive us. Father have mercy on us. I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips. I am a man who does not fully grasp the seriousness of my sin and I live among people who do not grasp the seriousness of their sin. O Savior of sinners, the light of the world, Helper of the helpless, have mercy upon us. Open our eyes, Lord. Open our hearts. Help us turn from our wicked ways and follow You as we should from right hearts with pure and godly motives for the glory of God, by the grace of God with the love of God.
Through Jesus Christ alone,
Amen
