Day 162: Psalm 48:8-9
Psalm 48:8 As we have heard, So we have seen In the city of the LORD of hosts, In the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah 9We have thought, O God, on Your loving kindness, In the midst of Your temple.
Dear God, we have heard of Your greatness and glory and we have seen it again and again on the behalf of many of Your children. Lord, You care for Your people and You give us the grace to see the heavenly city. Our hearts dare to hope, to dream because You have revealed the heavenly home, the city of the Lord of hosts.
It is the new Jerusalem, the city not built with hands, eternal in the heavens. It is the city of God. Hebrews 12:22-24 reminds us. “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, 23to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” There is no night there. The Lord God is our light, our warmth, our love, our living water. There is no more crying, no more pain, no more tears.
This is The city that You have established for Your glory, but also for Your children. You do not need a city. The heavens cannot contain You. But You have brought this city to us that we might dwell with You. You have reached down to us in love and provided for us. You have promised to dwell among us, to be our God and we would be Your people. Here is the fulfillment of that word, the city of God which You established.
We remember this as we come to worship You. Our worship services point ahead to the day when the kingdoms of this world become, the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ and He shall reign forever and ever.
Amen!
