Psalm 144: Psalms 45: 3 – 5
Psalm 45:3 Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, With Your glory and Your majesty. 4And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness; And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things. 5Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King’s enemies; The peoples fall under You.
Lord Jesus, You are not only beautiful and gracious but all-powerful. As King David was a type of Your future victory over sin and death and the grave, and ultimately over all the forces of evil, so the Psalmist mentions David’s victories, but we see Christ’s ultimate victory over all.
You are terrifying in Your power and strength! When You go forth to war there is none who can prevail against You. We cry out to You to go to war, to subdue Your enemies under You. Revelation 19: 11 – 16 has a final picture of Christ as the powerful victor over all. Please put on Your armor, Your terrible and mighty sword, and deal with Your enemies.
As the sun is glorious in its power, size, and wonder compared to earth, so You are even more glorious, more powerful than the most massive star, indeed than all the stars in the heavens. You created them all by the Word of Your power and it was as nothing to You. When we pray to You to put on Your mighty sword, we ask no small thing, but we ask that You would cleanse this world, the very universe of its sickening and rebellious evil!
You will deal with all Your enemies. None will be able to hide from the searchlight of Your all-seeing eyes. Your Spirit and Your Word will expose the hearts and minds of all creatures. Those who refuse to humble themselves before You and acknowledge Your Lordship will fall into darkness, and eternal suffering.
May Your kingdom come, Lord Jesus Christ our eternal King!
