Lord, Thank You for Your Deliverance

Day 69: Psalms 31:4-8

Psalm 31:4 Pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, For You are my strength. 5Into Your hand I commit my spirit; You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth. 6I have hated those who regard useless idols; But I trust in the LORD.

Father, repeatedly king Saul sought to trap Your servant, David. The Pharisees sought to trap Your Son, Christ. Yet David and most of all, Jesus Christ, fully committed themselves to You. You rescued and redeemed them, and through Christ alone, You have redeemed all Your chosen children.

In their own way my enemies set traps for me and try to catch me in their snares. Do not let them prevail, O Lord. They would sneak around me and use my words against me. They even sought to use Christ’s words against him, though there was no sin in Him or in anything He said. But they twisted His Words out of context. They denied the truth that He spoke and repeatedly proved. They chose the darkness rather than the light.

Lord, if You do not protect me from their conspiracies, I do not know how to do so. But You do know how to deal with them, O Lord. II Peter 2:9 says, “…the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the Day of Judgment.” Lord, You will see us through every trial whether by life or death, and You will bring us safely and finally to our heavenly home.

You are my strength, O God. You have sustained me and given me rest, strength, hope, life, and more. To God be the glory. As Jesus said from the cross, “Into Your hands, I commit my spirit.” I also commit my spirit and my life to You. Give what is best. You have redeemed Me, O Lord God of truth. My life has been purchased by the death of Your Son. In His life I have life. We have life. All that You have called by Your name.

Lord, turn the wicked to call on You. Help them turn from their idolatry, but if they will not turn away, expose their lies, foolishness, and evil. Lord, I trust in You because You have helped me to trust You. You gave me life. You opened my eyes. You ordered my steps and brought me to faith in You. To God alone be the glory.

Psalm 31:7-8 7I will be glad and rejoice in Your mercy, For You have considered my trouble; You have known my soul in adversities, 8And have not shut me up into the hand of the enemy; You have set my feet in a wide place.

Lord, You have not given me what I have deserved. You have caused this forgiven sinner to rejoice in Your goodness. You have seen my grief and trouble and given me reason to rejoice. You have walked alongside me in my troubles and caused me to trust and hope in You.

You know when I sit down and when I rise, when I am under siege, and when I sleep. You see me and know me. You provide for me in every season of my life, and You give me the confidence and the hope to trust in You. Thank You, O God. Praise be to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

You have not left me to the evil one or to his minions. You have overcome those who were against me. You have prepared a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have given me a place to stand when there seemed to be nothing but quicksand all around. You have protected me through the journeys in the night. You have gone before me and behind me, beside me and above me, beneath me and all around me to protect and help me. Thanks be to God who gives us the victory in our Lord Jesus Christ.  You overcome our enemies from without and from within. Amen.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
