Day 68: Psalms 31:1-3
Psalm 31:1 To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be ashamed; Deliver me in Your righteousness. 2Bow down Your ear to me, Deliver me speedily; Be my rock of refuge, A fortress of defense to save me. 3For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me.
O God, David, Your chosen child, was often attacked and oppressed by enemies. While he fought lions and bears as a shepherd, he also fought a giant, King Saul, Absalom, and others who were set against him. You rescued David from all his enemies, including his own sin.
From King David to the greatest King, Your Son was also beset by enemies on earth, even from His birth, from wicked King Herod to the Pharisees and Saducees, from the devil and his temptations to Pilate and the Roman soldiers. Yet, you delivered Him from all His enemies including sin and death. And by Your grace, through Him, You delivered me and all Your children.
You are my hope and my shield, my Deliverer in whom I trust. Again and again, my Father, You have saved me from my own sin and from the power of sinners against me.
There were times I was sore afraid and wondered if there was any future and any hope. I was afraid for myself, my family, and for those around me. But You delivered me, O Lord, the King. You saved me from my sin, my foolishness. You delivered me from those who plotted against me and lied against me. You delivered me from those who were too strong from me. In a timely manner, just when I needed it, You saved me.
And in the midst of my troubles, even while I was afraid and wondering what would become of me, You gave me peace by Your presence. Even though my heart was broken and my eyes were filled with tears, still You were with me to help me, to hold me, to see me through the waters that threatened. You helped me through the fire and the storm.
I have seen mighty buildings toppled by hurricanes and earthquakes, but You are my rock that cannot be moved, my refuge, and my eternal fortress. O Lord, You help me stand against all the storms of the universe. Even when the day comes when I will die, even then You will be my fortress. You will be unto me like Noah’s ark that preserved his family from the storm while others around them died in their sin, because they would not repent. As Jesus was with His disciples and gave them peace in the midst of the storm so You have been, are and will be with Your people through all the storms of their lives. You will give peace even when our enemies attack.
You are our Rock and our fortress. You will lead and guide us even through the darkest night. Even in the hardest times, You will lead us and guide us with Your eye upon us. You have done this again and again. All glory and praise be to Your Name.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
