The Wonder of God’s Voice

Day 64:  Psalms 29:3-9

            Psalm 29:3-9 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters. 4The voice of the LORD is powerful; The voice of the LORD is full of majesty. 5The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars, Yes, the LORD splinters the cedars of Lebanon. 6He makes them also skip like a calf, Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox. 7The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire. 8The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; The LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. 9The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth, And strips the forests bare; And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”

            Lord, Your word is powerful. By Your Word the universe came into existence. You spoke and it was done. Your voice is louder than the sound of mighty rushing waterfalls. Your voice is more powerful than thunder in the most terrible thunderstorms. Your voice is the most powerful voice of all. Your voice can destroy all there is or bring all reality into existence. Your voice is not only powerful, but it is majestic, controlled power, directed power, perfected power. Your voice can stop men in their tracks and break the sturdiest trees. You can break them into tiny splinters. You can make them like toothpicks in the wind though they may grow hundreds of feet tall and be several tons in weight.

            Your voice can divide the flames as You did for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. As You divided the waters of the Red Sea, so You can divide the waters and let Your people walk through on dry ground. Your voice is mightier than the earthquake, mightier than the desert sandstorms.  Your voice is so precise and gentle that it can make a deer give birth or go through a forest and strip a forest cleaner than a raging fire. 

            When we see this and contemplate it and truly grasp the wonder and the power of You and Your Voice, we are awed and overwhelmed.

            Lord, there is none like You. You have revealed Your power and majesty. All praise and glory be to Your name, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. You have shown us Your Word. You have revealed the voice of the Lord in Your Son Jesus Christ. It is He that spoke the worlds into existence. It is He that spoke and the fig tree gave no fruit. It was He that spoke and Lazarus rose from the dead. It was He that spoke and the storm was stilled. It was He that spoke and cast out demons. It was He that spoke and diseases were healed, water was turned into wine, the blind were made to see, enemies were confounded, the suffering were comforted and salvation was given. All this came the ultimate expression of the Voice of the Lord, even Jesus Christ!

            And the angels, the multitudes of men, all creation itself will cry glory to His name! Amen and amen!

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
