Day 47: Psalms 24:7-10
Psalm 24:7 Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. 9Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. 10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah.
O God, one of our human longings is for a hero, a leader, a person who can get us out of the trouble that terrifies us and our world. We want to be that hero, but we cannot. Plato wanted philosopher kings. Israel had King David. He was the greatest earthly king Israel knew and . . . for a moment it looked like Solomon would be that King. His wisdom and his reign of peace were promising, but Solomon was not that king.
You tell us in Your Word, “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” (Eze 22:30) But when all hope seemed lost, the true king made his first incarnational arrival.
2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Rev 5:2-5 ESV)
It is You, Lord Jesus Christ, who has opened the way. Hebrews 9:12 and 24 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with Your own blood You entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 24For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.”
Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
Lord Jesus, You are the King of glory! You are the King of kings and Lord of lords and all the universe longs for the day when You will fully and finally show Your kingly Lordship overall to the glory of God the Father forever! Amen and Hallelujah!
Amen!
