Learning to Depend Upon and Rejoice in God’s Care

Day 39:  Psalms 20:5-9

Psalm 20:5 We will rejoice in Your salvation and in the name of our God we will set up our banners! May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.

O Lord, the greatest and most wonderful truth is that You have saved me from hell, from the penalty of my sin (Luke 10: 19 – 21). You also have saved me from sin’s absolute domination (Rom 6: 14).  You have shown me evidence of a break in the darkness, the control. You have delivered me and all Your people again and again. Praise the Lord! Help us rejoice and delight in Your wondrous victory!

May we bring all our petitions and prayers to you and see them fulfilled! Jesus met with You, often in secret, Father (Matt 14: 23; Luke 5:16). Peter was in the temple in the hour of prayer (Acts 3: 1). Martin Luther prayed for hours at a time. Father, help me. Help my family. Help my church be people of dependent, Spirit-led prayer. Help us be a prayer to You, a house of prayer (Mark 11: 17).

Lord, help us truly pray and trust You and put all our lives in Your hand. Thank You for Jesus’ prayers for us (Isaiah 53: 12; John 17; Heb 7:25). Thank You for the prayers of others (Rev 5: 8; 8: 3 – 4). Thank you for all the wondrous answers to prayer.

Psalm 20:6a Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed.

Father, You saved Jesus, Your only Son from corruption (Acts 2: 27 – 31). You saved Adam and all others through the grace and sacrifice of Christ including Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Judah, King David, and Solomon, and a holy remnant. You saved Job, Elijah, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Augustine, Wycliffe, the Venerable Bede, Huss, Calvin, Luther, and more.

Down through the ages, again and again, You have shown Your salvation in Jesus and delivered Your appointed servants repeatedly. Only Christ is worthy in and of Himself to be saved, but through Jesus, we, Your chosen children, are saved. Thanks be to God for His mercies to us.

O Lord, You have rescued me from myself and from those who are too strong for me by myself.  Lord, please use me to rescue others from their sin and the attacks of sinners against them as Christ works through me.

Psalm 20:6b He will answer him from His holy heaven with the saving strength of His right hand.

I know, O Lord, that You have delivered me again and again from my own sinful nature and from sinners who have set themselves against me. Thank You for helping me pray. May You receive all the honor and glory. In Jesus name, Amen

Lord, teach us to pray. Help us rely on You through dependent, Christ-centered prayers. You delight in us; You sing over us (Zeph 3: 17). You woo us to Yourself with perfect self-sacrificing love (Hos 11; 4).

We love You because You still and first loved us.

Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

O Lord, we do remember Your name. We must and do trust You and not our own wits, our strength, not even our faith. We trust in You. You are the One who raises and lowers kings, who exalts and lowers people in authority. Lord, our lives are in Your hand. Thank You for Your perfect management of our lives. You work all things together for good, even the lives of Your children. Lord, You are in charge of all and You, in Your time, will settle all accounts. Thank You for helping us to put our faith in You!

Psalm 20:8 They have bowed down and fallen but we have risen and stand upright.

Lord, our enemies of sin, death, and the grave have first fallen to Jesus, and one day all the demons, diseases, and evil itself will be done away with. But for now, our victory is in Jesus!

Psalm 20:9 Save, Lord! May the King [King Jesus] answer us when we call.

Lord, You have answered and do answer. All praise be to Your name. In Jesus’ name alone, Amen.

Thank you for your mercy and your grace to me. I am more and more learning that I come to You only on the merits of Christ. Even my best deeds are tainted by sin. I desire to come to You, to seek You, to love You, to know You. But Lord even in this desire I am too often concerned about what others think of my walk with You. I am too often filled with other reasons for seeking You. Lord, You are the priceless treasure. You are the pearl of great price. In You alone is my joy, my victory, my crown. Lord, let me love You, seek You with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Help me love You in response to Your love to me.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
