Celebrating Christ’s Victory Yesterday, Today, and Forever

Day 29:  Psalms 18:1-3

Psalm 18:1-2 I will love You, O Lord my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my strength in whom I will trust, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Wondrous and Glorious Sovereign God and King, this Psalm finds its ultimate fulfillment in Christ, foreshadowed by King David, and blessedly applied to me and to all Your redeemed children!  David looked ahead to the Lord Christ, we look back in history, but also up to glory, as we see each and every victory of our lives finds its source and accomplishment in Jesus Christ! We were made to trust You and rely on You, to delight in You and the glories of Who You are and all that You have done!

You are my true reason for living. In You I live and move and have my being (Acts 17:28).  I love You, Lord, for You have first loved me (I John 4:19). You have drawn me to Yourself with cords of love (Hosea 11:4). You have not abandoned my soul to hell (Psalm 16:10).

Lord, You are my rock (Psalm 31:3). I stand firmly on You and find my strength in You (Ephesians 6:10). You give me stability. If not for Your grace I would sink beneath the waves of my sin and the vicissitudes of life. But You are under me to uphold me and sustain me (Psalm 3:5).

You are my fortress all around. Those who would attack me from behind, from around me, from above me – wherever they are, Lord, You see them and protect me from them. None can do anything to me except what You have designed to make me more like Christ.

You are my deliverer. You hold me up, You protect and strengthen me to stand against the storms of life. No one can overcome those whom You sustain (Psalm 3:5). You teach my fingers to fight (Psalm 144:1). We stand in You against all the powers of darkness.

But it is You, O Lord, who delivers me. You are my rescuer, my hero, my redeemer, Savior, brother, friend, the true and living, almighty God – King of Kings & Lord of Lords. You, Jesus, have defeated sin and death. You are the deliverer planned from eternity past. You are the time-space deliverer at Calvary. You have redeemed all Your people and You take me personally under Your protection, whether in life or in death.

You are God, my God, the true and living triune God. You are my strength when I have no strength. You are my strength even when I think I am full of my own strength.

You are my shield as I go forth by Your command. You are the horn of my salvation – the announcement of my victory. You are my stronghold. None can break through the walls. None can snatch me out of Your hand.

Psalm 18:3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised

So shall I be saved from my enemies. You are my victory, O Lord, my strength. Lord, You are my victory. You are my hero and my champion. In Your victory alone do I prevail. Help me, O Lord, to serve You, to help You, to follow You.

I call on You, Lord, because only You can prevail against my obstinate will, against my sin, against the flesh, the world, and the devil. Lord, You have promised, “Sin shall not have dominion over me (Romans 6:14).” Lord, make this a reality in my life. Help me to truly love You, work with You and serve You.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
