Praying for the Wicked and the Poor

Day 19:  Psalms 10: 11-18

Psalm 10:11 He has said in his heart, “God has forgotten. He hides His face. He will never see.”

The wicked either thinks God cannot help or will not help (Psalm 94:4-7). The fool has said in his heart there is no God (Psalm 53:1). Indeed there are seasons when God allows His children to suffer earthly defeats for His glory and for their ultimate good (Romans 8:28). They are even warned in Revelation 13:7 that for a season the beast will overcome the saints, at least some of them. But God’s Word also tells them that in the end God and His children prevail (Hebrews 3:4). In the end, Jesus wins!

Psalm 10:12 Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand! Do not forget the humble.

O Lord, do not allow the evil one to prevail over us or over our faith. Use Your hand, Your strength to protect us and to defeat the evil one.

We cannot save ourselves only You can save us. Hear our cry, O Lord. Strengthen our faith.  See us through our trials in Jesus Christ alone. Amen.

Psalm 10:13 Why do the wicked renounce God? He has said in his heart You will not require an account.

He does not realize that there will be a day of judgment. On one level he knows it, yet he forgets it. He denies it. He has convinced himself that there are no consequences to his sin. O Lord, please open their eyes before it is too late for them!

Psalm 10:14 But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand. The helpless commits himself to You, You are the helper of the fatherless.

Lord, though wicked ones believe there are no consequences, yet they must deal with the consequences that will come. You have let me see some of the consequences to some evil in this life, Lord. You do repay – often in this life, but some will wait for judgment day. I have seen some of Your chastisement on Your people and judgments on the wicked in this life.

Lord, You do help the helpless. You give them the grace to make it through to heavenly triumph and on many occasions You show Your help openly here on earth. You are the Helper of the fatherless.

Please help my fatherless friend, Lord, and other fatherless men like him. Help them find You to be their help.

Psalm 10:15 Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; Call his wickedness to account until You find none.

One day, O praise Your name, Lord, all evil will be done away. All spiritual warfare will be over and You will lead Your people in triumph. Praise Your name, O Lord.

Lord, please do not let evil prevail against me. Help me overcome evil with Your good (Romans 12:21) and Your grace, through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

Psalm 10:16 The Lord is King forever and ever. The nations have perished out of His land.

Lord, You reign. You are the King. Jesus Christ is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. If God is for us, who can be against us? He who spared not His own Son, how shall He not freely with Him, in Him and by Him give us all things, all that we need for life and godliness (Romans 8:32).

Forgive my doubts and fears, O Lord. You always rule over men and nations (Jeremiah 10:7). Even when they conspire against You, You will prevail. You triumph and in Your triumph, Your children prevail!

Psalm 10:17 Lord, You have heard the prayer of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear.

Lord God, You have granted me deliverance. You have set my heart to seek You and find You. You have given me refuge in the storm when the tempest raged. You delivered me from trouble and from all my foes. You are even helping me with the struggles of my own heart. O Lord, I give You thanks and praise.

You prepare my heart for the trials, and also prepare me to grow. You have heard my prayer. You do help me, my family, my supporters and Your children everywhere.

Psalm 10:18 To do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may oppress no more.

Lord, some have become fatherless from the loss of an earthly father. Some are oppressed. Some are still concerned about those who would oppress from afar.

Do not let the man of the earth oppress any more. Do not let him have a foothold (Ephesians 4:26-27). Do not let him attack, or in his attack let him stumble into his own snare. Deal with his evil and oppression and grant us mercy. Help us help those from the grace that You give us!

In Jesus name alone,

Amen.

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
