Day 7: Psalms 5:7-12
Psalm 5:7 But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house. I will bow down toward your holy temple in the fear of you.
Lord, I come into Your house because of Your mercy. I tremble before You. You are my God and it is only by Your mercy and grace that I can stand before You. I know that I, with the whole universe, will give an account for our deeds (Romans 14:11-12). You alone are the God of the universe whom I fear with godly fear (Matthew 10:28). You are the Sovereign God and there is no other (Deuteronomy 4:39).
I come to worship You with Your people (Acts 2:46-47). I will one day worship You with all the multitudes (Revelation 5:11-14). Lord, help me worship You in Spirit and in truth according to Your Word (John 4:23-24) in the midst of Your congregation (Psalm 111:1).
Psalm 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.
Lord, help me walk right paths so that my enemies will have nothing against me (Titus 2:6-8). Help me live righteously before You. You have said that the just shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4). Help me live by faith in You and Your righteousness, in the righteousness of Jesus Christ, my Savior, and Lord (Romans 3:22).
Show me the right way to live (Psalm 25:4). Let me walk faithfully so that Your enemies and my enemies may have nothing against me. Let me not bring disgrace on Your name.
Psalm 5:9 For there is no truth in their mouth; their inmost self is destruction; their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.
Lord, they have not been faithful to follow You. They have put together their plans to attack the Lord’s anointed. They have set evil in motion and with their conspiracies, their deceptive disloyalty, their self-righteousness, and justification of evil they have attacked. Their inward part is wickedness – complete wickedness. Their throat is an open grave looking for someone to kill. They speak flattering words to ensnare others where it suits them.
You have given us examples in the enemies of Nehemiah (Nehemiah 6:10-14), Jeremiah (Jeremiah 18:18-19), and Daniel (Daniel 6:4-9). Indeed, O Lord, they set themselves against You and Your anointed (Acts 4:26-30).
Psalm 5:10 Make them bear their guilt, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; because of the abundance of their transgressions cast them out, for they have rebelled against you.
Please cause them to repent or else remove their influence from us. (Matthew 10:12-15). Do not let them continue to attack Your people. Let them fall by their own counsel. Lord, confuse them. Let their treachery backfire on them. Let them be destroyed by their lies, deceits, and traps. Do not let my bitterness over their sin destroy me (Ephesians 4:31-32). Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions. Lord, if You should mark iniquities who could stand, but there is forgiveness with Thee that You might be feared (Psalm 130:3). O Lord, if it is possible, help them repent, and forgive them, but if not, O Lord, deal with their evil.
Psalm 5:11 But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.
Lord, help us rejoice. You have given us reason to hope, to give thanks, and to look forward in faith to the future. Let all those that You have defended and exonerated shout for joy. Let those who love You be joyful in You, O Lord, my Strength and my Redeemer.
Help us see the world from Your perspective. Help us know that You are God and that there is no other (Deuteronomy 4:39; Isaiah 44:8). Help us rejoice in Your deliverance of us and Your provision. Help us avoid and escape the traps of bitterness and frustration. Even in the middle of trials help us rejoice, even as Paul and Silas sang, even in jail (Acts 16:25).
Psalm 5:12 For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield.
For You, O Lord will bless the righteous, even those whom You have declared righteous and made perfect through faith in Your Son. You will give Him Your favor and it will surround Him and us (His people) as a shield. Your righteousness is our protection. You have shown us Your favor. You have given us hope and peace and joy and life. In You, Lord Jesus, there is blessing evermore.
