Seeking Godliness in Others

Day 6:  Psalms 5:1-6

Psalm 5:1 To the choirmaster: for the flutes. A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD; consider my groaning. 2Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray.

Please hear me and respond, Lord of the Universe, My Father in Jesus. Please listen to my meditation. Attend to my cry. You are my King; You are my God. I pray to You because You can and do hear me. You know my very thoughts (Psalm 139:2). You not only hear, but You respond to my prayers. You give me the grace to face my fears, to handle whatever may come. You are with me to help me.

Psalm 5:3 O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.

In the morning, Lord God, I know You hear me. There is something precious and private about the morning. It is like Daniel when the king went to see him in the lions’ den after a night of restlessness, fasting, and concern for his servant. In the morning the king went to see. He found that God had supplied His servant deliverance (Daniel 6:18-22). Each new morning brings a new day of hope. After a long night of sickness, worry, or trouble, Your hope comes with the morning. In the morning I turn my prayers toward You. You give me fresh faith and grace to stand against the darkness. Your grace is new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:2-3).

Psalm 5:4 For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you.

You do not enjoy wickedness nor do You tolerate evil in Your presence – it will not dwell with You. You will not put up with rebellion against Your law. You hate wickedness all the day long (Genesis 6:5). Lord, wicked men may work their schemes for a time; they may practice evil and think themselves unaccountable to God or man (Psalm 73:2-11). Yet the day of judgment and reckoning will come when You will finally and fully deal with those men and their rebellion against You (Psalm 73:15-19). The wicked will not stand (Psalm 1:5).

Lord, You know all things (John 16:30; 21:17). Nothing is hidden from You. You see all evil, and in Your perfect time and in Your perfect way, You will deal with their wickedness.

Psalm 5:5 The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers.

Those who are proud and arrogant will not remain in Your presence, in Your sight. (Revelation 21:8). God, You resist the proud but give grace to the humble. The proudest will stumble and fall (Jeremiah 50:32). When people gather together and are proud, You destroy whole nations (Jeremiah 50:29).

Psalm 5:6 You destroy those who speak lies; the LORD abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.

You hate those who speak falsehood, who tell lies. You have said that all liars will be sent to eternal judgment if they do not repent of their ways (Revelation 21:8). You hate bloody and deceitful men – the armed robber, the one who does violence to carry out evil schemes (Proverbs 4:16-19). You will destroy them (Psalm 73:18). They may sin for a season and cause havoc for a time, but their day of judgment will surely come (Jeremiah 23:12).

Jesus Christ brought me to Himself at a very early age. I began seeking the Lord and writing prayer journals in my early teens and have continued to grow in my knowledge and experience of prayer. I am still learning and growing in my prayer life and long to help others grow in their prayer lives as well. I am not an expert, but a practitioner who needs God to continue to teach me to pray. Prayer is both simple, yet also profound. It is deep and draws us into the depth of God, but it is also so easy and wondrous that we can cry out to God with "Abba, Father" prayers because of the work of Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Prayer comes from God's heart, works in our hearts, and teaches us to go back to seek God's heart!
