Day 2: Psalm 1:1b – 2 . . . Who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stands in the way of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scoffers.
By Your favor, O Lord, help me not to walk or to live my life by the counsel, the advice, or the direction of the ungodly. Do not let their counsel, or even their entertainment, adversely influence or guide me (Proverbs 1:15). Deliver me from the evil of my sinful flesh, the world, and the devil!
Help me not stand in the path of sinners. O Lord Jesus, I know that this does not mean that I should not sit and eat with tax collectors and sinners (I Corinthians 5:9-10). But, O Lord, it must mean that any true heart fellowship is with You and Your people. O Lord, I know that I must not abide with the wicked in their wickedness, by thinking their thoughts or living their lifestyles.
Help me not stand with them, waiting with them for something wicked to come. Keep me from joining them in wicked plans, wicked advice, or in wicked thoughts, words and deeds. Enable me when I do stand with them to bring them the grace of Christ, even as Your Son, our Savior, went and met with tax collectors and the notorious sinners of His day.
Protect me from sitting in the seat of scorners and from the temptation to scorn and mock God with them. When I sit with them as Jesus sat with tax collectors and sinners, help me to love them, to care for them as people made in the image of God (Matthew 9:11-12). Lord, You did not ask us to go out of the world, but You did and do command us not to be infected by worldliness (I Corinthians 9:5-11). O, help us to wisely walk and live under Your guidance and Divine favor.
Psalm 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on His law he meditates day and night.
Let my delight be in Your Law, O Lord, as it reveals You and Your nature. Let me meditate in Your Word day and night. O Lord, let this be my greatest joy and my highest entertainment and not television and other worldly amusements. May I love and delight to be with You and better understand You through Your Word and the work of the Holy Spirit.
Help me delight to do Your will (Psalm 40:8), even as Jesus Christ, Your Son, my Savior and Lord, the most beautiful and true and only God has done. O Lord, be my life, my light, my joy, my crown, my victory, my all in all.
Ask God to help you and all God’s people to delight to love and follow the Lord by grace through faith in and through His Word!
